Overview of Oracle Enterprise Data Quality (OEDQ)

For those of you who are new to Oracle Enterprise Data Quality (OEDQ). Rittman Mead Consulting has published a great article which provides an overview of the tool and functionality. In addition to my blog I would strongly encourage subscribing to a few other blogs on the web to build a holistic understanding and knowledge base of OEDQ and Data Quality. Provided below are links to the Rittman Mead Consulting article as well as a few of the blogs I subscribe to. Enjoy!

  1. Hi,

Can you please suggest which of the following books will be more useful for me to start with a new assignment in terms anchoring a enterprise data quality project?

The Practitioner's Guide to Data Quality Improvement - David Loshin

Measuring Data Quality for Ongoing Improvement: A Data Quality - Laura Sebastian-Coleman

  2. Hello,

    Great question!

For a new enterprise data quality project I would suggest "The Practioner's Guide to Data Quality Improvement" by David Loshin.

I believe David Loshin's approach and concepts are more holistic and focus on the impact of data quality on business, management and IT. David Loshin's book also suggests that it will help you establish a data quality performance framework around your implementation which might help ensure sustainability of your project. Overall, Data Loshin comes from a master data management, BI and data quality background; his book will really help you develop an enterprise data quality solution including people, processes, technology and frameworks.

"Measuring Data Quality for Ongoing Improvement" seems to concentrate more on the data quality performance metrics and enhancement, similar to Six Sigma or Lean Management for supply chains and assembly lines. This book might be more useful after the enterprise data quality tool(s) have been implemented or even in the absence of data quality tool(s). The concepts discussed in this book focus on improvements through applying the Data Quality Assessment Framework DQAF) to Data Metrics, Data Models, Data Processing and Data Measurement.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to reply with any additional questions you may have.

    Thanks!
